Grade 7

Expository writing explains or informs. Expository paragraphs state facts, give directions, explain ideas, or define terms. An expository essay will have an introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion.

Sample Prompts

Write an expository essay to tell your class about some of the things that you like to do with your family during holiday time. Give details and examples to help make your writing more interesting.

Think about the things you think are important to do to stay healthy. Write an expository essay to share your ideas with your classmates.

Choose one thing you have learned in school. Write an expository essay telling this one thing you learned and why it was important to learn.

Write an expository essay explaining what one toy was or still is your favorite and why it is a great toy.

Choose one thing you enjoy doing in the winter. Write an expository paper explaining one thing you like to do in the winter and why it is enjoyable.
