TIPS for WRITING

·         You have ninety minutes to write.

·         Remember that a narrative uses character, setting, plot, and conclusion.

·         Think carefully about what you are going to write.  It has to be real.  Use scratch paper to list ideas before you begin writing your rough draft.

·         Use the special response form to write your final draft.

·         Use a regular or erasable Black Ballpoint Pen for your final essay.

·         Use your best handwriting.

·         Do not use “White Out”.  Draw a line through any errors you have made and rewrite.

·         You may use a classroom dictionary or thesaurus.

·         When you have finished your paper, reread it to make sure that you have said what you want to say.

·         If you finish early, put your head down on your desk and relax for a few minutes. Then, reread your paper.

·         Do your best.

Narrative Prompt Background:

Everyone has first-time experiences. A first-time experience might be the first time you try to do something or the first time you go to a new place. It may be learning to play a new sport or game or the first time you try learning a new skill.  It might even be going to a special event or a vacation spot for the first time.

Focus:

Think about a first-time experience you remember well. How did you get ready? What made the first-time experience interesting, exciting, scary, or special?  Why did you participate in this experience?
