Seventh Grade Practice Prompt

Based on the 2003 Field Test Prompt

 

·         Use your time wisely.  You have ninety minutes to write to the assignment at the bottom of this page.

·         Expository writing explains or informs.  Your essay should have an introduction, body paragraphs and a conclusion.

·         Think carefully about what you are going to write before you begin.

·         Use scratch paper or the back of this sheet to list ideas before you begin writing your rough draft.

·         You may use a classroom dictionary or thesaurus.

·         Use a regular or erasable black pen for your final essay.

·         Use your best handwriting.

·         You are limited to the front and back of one response form.

·         Use the special response form to write your final draft.

·         When you have finished your paper, reread it to make sure that you have said what you want to say.

·         Erase or draw a line through any errors you make and rewrite.  Do not use “White Out.”

·         Reread your paper one final time.

·         Do your best.

 

Expository Prompt Background:

Most everyone has a goal that he/she wants to accomplish.  Goals can be related to school, jobs, hobbies, something new to learn or even a skill to improve. Goals can take a short time or even years to achieve.  When a person sets a goal, he/she must first decide what he/she would like to do and, secondly, how to go about achieving it.

 

Writing Assignment:

Write an essay for your English teacher explaining one goal that you want to set for yourself.  In your essay, explain why this goal is important and how you will take steps to achieve it.
