The federal government instituted a program in 1997 to provide financial assistance to individuals wishing to seek certification through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. The program is called the National Board Certification Fee Subsidy Program. This program provides up to one-half of the fees required for National Board certification. At this time, the total cost of the National Board certification process is $2,500. Thus the subsidy program can pay for up to $1,250 of the total fees for a candidate who meets the eligibility requirements. Applications for subsidy are due in the state department of education office by November 15 (see details below).

ELIGIBILITY FOR CANDIDATE SUBSIDY FUNDING
SUBSIDY FORMS

In order to receive any Candidate Subsidy funding, the individual must first submit an application for NBPTS certification program and provide verification that this has been done. Verification of enrollment can be a notarized copy of a receipt or cancelled check. A copy of the on-line registration process at www.nbpts.org can also be printed off and submitted to provide enrollment verification. Because the funding for the Candidate Subsidy program is limited, recipients will be determined by the date their application for the subsidy funding is received in the NBPTS office.
