Technical Assistance through Title IIA State Activity Funding
and the Idaho Math Initiative
State Pilot Project – Comprehensive Assistance Program
Qualifying criterion for districts/schools to be chosen for participation include:
- Need for assistance in meeting Math AYP in Middle Grades
- Rural designation
- Need for assistance in meeting goal of 100% HQT
- Willingness to commit planning time and resources toward successful implementation
State Pilot Project – Comprehensive Assistance Program
SDE will provide assistance to 30 schools (middle schools receiving first preference) in the following ways:
- Principal Mentoring through PALS Project focusing on school environment and student achievement [NCLB, Sec. 2122(c)]
- Training and Mentoring for Principal and 3 Teachers in math content, pedagogy, and assessment-Ultimately creating an opportunity for a focus group to have ongoing input in reviewing practice and recommending support/change in instruction toward meeting AYP

- State core Mathematical Thinking course with credits paid for by SDE
- Mentor training and materials through the New Teacher Center in Santa Cruz for three teachers (building, or district distribution) to address needs of new teachers in district and those involved in Math Project.
- Materials for up to seven teachers chosen to receive mentoring and support.
