About Us
Correlations
Project Learning Tree (PLT), Project WILD, and Project WET are environmental
education programs. The hands-on interdisciplinary nature of the activities
makes them ideal for meeting the needs of educators and students. We hope
these correlations help to facilitate the infusion of PLT, WILD and WET
activities into Idaho’s classrooms and other educational settings.
Disclaimer
Correlating written activities with content standards is challenging and
subjective. Since you may have a different perspective on the standards
and the activities, consider these correlations as starting points for
selecting and using PLT, WILD and WET activities.
Direct Relationship
Correlation relationships were made by comparing the activities (and their
extensions) to the objectives listed under each standard goal. If an
activity meets most of the objectives, its goal is listed as a major
correlation. If it meets only one or some of the objectives, its goal is
listed as a minor correlation. It is possible that an activity seems to
strongly match a standard by thoroughly emphasizing a particular skill or
understanding. However, if it does not match a majority of the objectives
listed under the goal, it will appear as a minor correlation. It is possible
for an activity to have only one or even no standard correlations listed, but
may indeed match when viewed in perspective with your own classroom practice.
Correlations Make No Assumptions
These correlations are based on the way the activity is written. They do not
take into account the myriad ways the activity could be modified to address a
standard more directly or completely. In addition, if the content of the standard
is referred to in the activity’s background but the students do not act on the
information in the written activity, it is not included in the correlations.
Links to Activity Descriptions
When you click on the name of a PLT, WILD or WET activity on this website, you will
jump to a descriptive page. This page includes the title, page number, grade levels,
subject areas, activity overview, objectives, skills, keywords and any correlations
to Idaho Content Standards in Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, Language Arts,
Humanities and Physical Education. NOTE: The listing of subjects in PLT, WILD and
WET is not based on Idaho’s Content Standards. Therefore, a subject might be listed
by PLT, WILD or WET and not address any standards. In addition, standards might be
addressed in an activity without the subject being listed by PLT, WILD or WET.
Project Sponsors
The current correlations to revised content standards were completed with funding
from an Environmental Education and Training Partnership grant through the national
offices of Project Learning Tree, Project WILD and Project WET. Additional funding
was provided by the Idaho base of each program: Idaho Forest Products Commission,
Idaho Dept. of Fish and Game, and University of Idaho Water Resources Research Institute
and program sponsors. Teachers Sheryce Davis (Project Coordinator), Amber Armstrong and
Jane Thornes, and education consultant Sue Perin completed the correlations, which were
reviewed by nine Idaho educators.
This work built on our correlations to the original Idaho Achievement Standards in 2001,
which was funded in part by an Environmental Education grant from the Environmental
Protection Agency. Additional sponsors included Idaho Forest Products Commission,
Idaho Dept. of Fish and Game, Idaho Water Resources Research Institute, Idaho Dept. of
Lands, U.S. Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service. The original correlations
were completed by three Idaho teachers: Lori Adams of Boise, Skip Leone of Burley, and
Jane Thornes of St. Maries.
