Re: Mastery Advancement Program - MAP (formerly a 6-year Pilot Program)
During the 2010 Legislative Session, the Mastery Advancement Program was approved (as a six-year pilot program) to provide a mechanism to reward Idaho schools, students and the state for helping students to graduate early. Under this six-year pilot program, districts and public charter schools can utilize mastery exams to allow students to progress quicker through high school. MAP also allows for pilot programs within elementary schools to use various ways of challenging students at the appropriate level. Districts and public charter schools must apply to participate in MAP.
With the 2013 Legislative Session, the bill was revised and is no longer in pilot phase, and is now open to all Idaho school districts and public charter schools as a permanent program effective July 01, 2013.
If your district or public charter is interested in participating in MAP, you must submit your application package to the State Department of Education by June 30, 2013. Your application package/criteria must be approved by the School Board and signed by the Superintendent. Please submit your package by mailing to:
Idaho State Department of Education
Attn: Cathy Salas
650 West State St.
Boise, ID 83720
Or by emailing csalas@sde.idaho.gov
Districts currently participating in the program do not need to re-submit an application unless there have been changes with contact information and test-out measures.
The full application is available online at http://www.sde.idaho.gov/site/mapp/. Please note the deadline to submit your application package is on June 30, 2013.
For more information on MAP, please contact Cathy Salas at (208) 332-6909 or csalas@sde.idaho.gov
