Initial Certificate for Idaho GraduatesFor individuals who have completed an educator preparation program at an Idaho college/university and are seeking their initial Idaho certificate/credential.
Interim Certificate for Non-Traditional CandidatesFor individuals who have completed the preliminary requirements of the non-traditional route to certification (ABCTE, CSI, LCSC or TFA).
Certificate for Pupil Service StaffFor individuals applying for a five (5) year renewable Pupil Service Staff Certificate.
Interim Certificate for Foreign EducatorsFor individuals who completed an educator preparation program in another country and hold a current, valid certificate in another country.
Initial Certificate for Postsecondary SpecialistFor individuals who hold a baccalaureate or higher in the content area being taught and are employed as a current faculty member from an accredited Idaho postsecondary institution.
Initial Certificate for Educator Registered ApprenticeshipFor individuals who have completed the Educator Registered Apprenticeship Program and are seeking their initial Idaho certificate/credential.

Alternative Authorizations for Districts/Charter SchoolsFor local education agencies who are looking to fill a position with a candidate who does not hold an appropriate certificate/endorsement.
Public Charter School Administrator CertificateThis application is for a public charter school board of directors to hire a public charter school administrator under the provisions of Idaho Code 33-5206(4).
Public Charter School-Specific Teacher CertificateThis application is for a public charter school board of directors to hire a public charter school-specific teacher to serve as a charter school teacher under the provisions of Idaho Code §33-5206(6).

What qualifications do I need to be a teacher?

You must meet the minimum requirements set by Idaho Code §33-1202. You must also complete a state approved teacher preparation program. The State Board of Education may refuse to issue or authorize a certificate to any applicant for such reason as would have constituted grounds for revoking a certificate.

I have a bachelor's degree (or master's) but have not completed a teacher certification program. How do I get certified to teach in Idaho?

What is a Praxis test? Which Praxis test do I take for my certification/endorsement? How do I register to take a Praxis test?

For certification purposes, the Praxis is the State Board of Education (SBOE)-approved content and performance assessments used in Idaho. For further information regarding Praxis assessments and to register for an assessment, refer to the PRAXIS website.

Do I have to take a Praxis test if I took the ABCTE test?

No. However, additional Certificates and/or endorsements added to an existing certificate/credential through a traditional teacher preparation program may require a Praxis Test.
