Welcome to the Idaho State Department of Education Web site. It is my honor to serve the citizens of Idaho as the Superintendent of Public Instruction.

As a father and grandfather, and former school board chairman, I understand the value of a quality education system. I appreciate our public school teachers who mentor, coach and encourage not only my own children but every child in every classroom.

It is my belief that state and federal education agencies should be a resource for educators and school administrators, not a barrier.

My administration has two major objectives. The first objective is to raise student achievement. We must provide students with an education system that allows every child the opportunity to graduate high school with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed, regardless of whether they choose to go to college, the military or the work force.

The second equally important objective is to provide our school districts with the timely, helpful assistance they need to raise student achievement in Idaho. Our staff stands ready to assist our local schools, to meet challenges head on and turn a good public school system into a great public school system.

Quality customer service is the measure of any organization – whether it’s a private business or a public agency. Our department has been reorganized to put the customers of education – the parents and students – first.

We have redesigned this Web site to better serve the needs of teachers, school administrators, parents and students. If you don’t find the information you are looking for, or you need other assistance, please call my office at (208) 332-6800 or 1-800-432-4601.
