What is Coordinated School Health?

A coordinated school health program is a planned and organized set of classes, programs, services and policies designed to meet the health and safety needs of K-12 students. Schools promote eight coordinated school health components: health education, physical education, health services, nutrition services, counseling/psychological services, a healthy safe environment, parent and community involvement and staff wellness.

Our Mission

The Coordinated School Health Program (CSHP) in the State Department of Education and the Department of Health and Welfare funded through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control (DP08-801 Improving Health and Educational Outcomes of Young People) provides funding opportunities, training, guidance, technical assistance and resources to Idaho schools with an emphasis on developing local coordinated school health councils to promote the health and well-being of youth.

About Us

A coordinated school health program is a planned and organized set of classes, programs, services and policies designed to meet the health and safety needs of K-12 students. Schools promote eight coordinated school health components: health education, physical education, health services, nutrition services, counseling/psychological services, a healthy safe environment, parent and community involvement and staff wellness.

The Coordinated School Health Program in the Department of Health and Welfare and State Department of Education provides funding opportunities, training, guidance, technical assistance and resources to schools that develop Coordinated School Health Programs.

Each school with a Coordinated School Health Program develops a council of staff, administrators, families, students and community members to develop ongoing action plans to make sure that the eight components are being looked at and worked on. There are currently 9 Pilot Schools across Idaho that receive funding to develop a Coordinated School Health Program.
