Lend a Helping Hand to the Lake Pend Oreille School District!

The Sandpoint Middle Schools needs your help! The school was chosen as a finalist in the UCT Gives Back contest and is competing for $10,000 in prize money. The contest focuses on serving students with intellectual disabilities.

Sandpoint Middle School in the Lake Pend Oreille School district created and submitted a two-minute YouTube video describing the school's rural location and high needs population. They were selected by UCT, a non-profit insurance company, as one of ten finalists and are now in a social media popular vote contest.

The prize money will be used to expand current resources for students with intellectual disabilities in the Lake Pend Oreille School District. The district currently uses the TEACCH Approach in their life skills program. "The UCT grant will offer the Lake Pend Oreille School District the opportunity to extend the TEACCH model not only in the life skills program, but also to the Lake Pend Oreille School District community for all those individuals who work with students with intellectual disabilities," said Dr. Joy Jansen, Director of Special Services for the Lake Pend Oreille School District.

"Our passion is to bring resources to the teachers and professionals working in our schools," said Lisa Barth, a parent and paraprofessional in the district. "It's about spreading the word and getting people to get on the page. Pull up Sandpoint Middle School, and vote for our school. It only takes about a minute."
