In September 2013, the Task Force for Improving Education released their final list of recommendations for improving K-12 education in the state of Idaho. One of the recommendations was adoption of a tiered licensing structure. Such a model allows teachers to earn professional status based upon tiers of responsibility and performance. These tiers are tied to higher rates of compensation for existing teachers and promises higher starting salaries for new Idaho teachers.
The Tiered Licensure Technical Advisory Committee was formed to research and develop a plan for implementing tiered licensure in Idaho that meets the original recommendation of the Task Force and works in concert with the Task Force's proposed career ladder compensation model.
