GEAR UP Idaho focuses on early intervention strategies to assist students in becoming prepared for post-secondary education. The program will help students meet standards necessary for high school graduation and provide them with the skills necessary to succeed beyond high school.
“Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.”
– Malcolm X
Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs
GEAR UP provides an opportunity for your student to demonstrate the ability to succeed in college and the option to gain college credits while in high school.
College graduates experience higher income, have more leisure time, better health and life expectancy, better outcomes for their children, and improved quality of life in general. They are more likely to have jobs that provide health insurance and retirement benefits. As a result, they have better access to preventative health care, leading to longer and healthier lives.
The incarceration rate for adults with at least some post-secondary education is about a quarter of that for individuals with only high school diploma. Higher concentrations of college graduates have a positive impact on the rate of growth of the economy, which is good for all of us!
GEAR UP Training
June 3 - 6, 2019
Location TBD (Treasure Valley)
GEAR UP Idaho and the State Department of Education would like to invite you to join a unique new training we are calling SHIFT. SHIFT is a training event for college and career readiness enthusiasts that focuses on topics centered around analyzing, building, and implementing effective college and career readiness (CCR) programs through an equally sustainable, positive and adaptive school culture.
In the first two days, participants will learn how to “work smarter, not harder” while working through the Building Blocks of a thoughtful and intentional school-wide college and career program plan. The final two days will be full of excitement as participants enjoy an interactive workshop by Seeds Training®. This workshop is focused on taking relevant theories and turning them into practical, everyday tactics for use in your CCR program.
This training is 100% free to encourage multiple staff members from each school to attend. This is open to GEAR UP and non-GEAR UP schools. This training will be held in the Boise/Meridian area but the location is TBD. Free parking and some meals are included.
