Important Information About Your Certification!

Processing Certificates, Fingerprints, and Background Checks

The State Department of Education is currently in the process of transitioning to a new teacher certification application. During the transition, processing certificates will take approximately 8-10 weeks to process from the date of receipt. Fingerprints and background checks will take 4-6 weeks to clear. If your district requires verification that you have applied for certification or submitted your fingerprints, please submit the payment receipt from the online application or a copy of the application to your human resources department.

2014 Certificate Renewal

We encourage educators whose certificates will expire on September 1, 2014 to apply for renewal any time after January 1, 2014 in order to avoid delays.

Adding Endorsements to a Certificate

The State Department of Education will no longer be adding endorsements to a teaching certificate based on coursework alone. As required by administrative rule , teaching endorsements will be awarded based upon three components: 1) proof of credit hour requirements, 2) proof of pedagogy, and 3) proof of performance.

To meet the proof of credit hour and pedagogy requirements, please submit official transcripts. To meet the proof of performance requirement, please submit a Professional Experience Report. If a candidate is not teaching in the content area or has not had clinical experience through an approved Idaho preparation program, the district can place the candidate on an alternative route to authorization for one year to attain the proof of performance.
